Securus recently completed a major communications, networking and electronic security upgrade in Fitzroy Crossing and Derby, helping restore and strengthen vital infrastructure after ongoing faults and cyclone-related impacts.
The project involved a comprehensive program of works across communications towers, CCTV, alarms, Starlink systems and network connectivity, ensuring the site now benefits from more reliable performance, improved security coverage and stronger remote access capabilities.
Restoring tower communications and network reliability
A key part of the project focused on rectifying issues affecting communications between towers and restoring dependable network performance.
Works included the replacement of faulty 24V PoE injectors to bring network communications back online, along with the installation of new communication dishes on towers where equipment faults were identified. Following cyclone impacts, dishes were also realigned to improve signal strength and restore stable links between locations.
Additional remediation works were carried out on damaged infrastructure, including the replacement of faulty cables running into voltage reducers and lightning protection equipment. Burnt-out and rusted voltage reducers and lightning arresters were also replaced to improve resilience and system reliability.
Upgrading CCTV and alarm systems
Securus also delivered a full commercial CCTV and alarm system upgrade as part of the project.
The existing CCTV system was modernised with the replacement of nine IP cameras and the upgrade of the existing 8-channel NVR to a new 16-channel NVR, providing increased system capacity and flexibility for future expansion. Every CCTV plug was re-crimped after previous incorrect terminations were identified, ensuring the system was properly fitted off and performing to standard.
Once installed, the CCTV system was fully commissioned and networked for remote access, giving users the ability to securely monitor the site from offsite locations.
The alarm system was also upgraded, including replacement of the alarm panel, keypad and plug pack, followed by full programming and testing. User registration and alarm configuration were completed, and Securus provided training to staff so they could confidently operate both the CCTV and alarm systems.
Improving site connectivity
To address additional network issues onsite, Securus identified a fault in the data link between the network switch and the counter, then reran the link to restore proper connectivity.
The project also included the installation of Generation 3 Starlink devices in suitable locations, improving communications capability and supporting more reliable internet connectivity. Existing Generation 2 Starlink units were replaced with new Generation 3 devices, with aluminium mounting plates installed to provide secure and durable mounting.
Wireless links were also installed between buildings to further strengthen network communications across the site.
End-to-end project delivery in challenging conditions
This project highlights Securus’ ability to deliver integrated communications, networking and electronic security solutions in regional and remote environments. From diagnosing faults and replacing damaged infrastructure through to commissioning, programming and staff training, the works were completed with a focus on reliability, performance and long-term usability.
By combining communications restoration, CCTV and alarm upgrades, Starlink deployment and inter-building wireless networking, Securus provided the Fitzroy Crossing site with a more robust and future-ready solution
